Book to Movie: Vampire Academy

I’m not sure how I feel about this YA book to movie due to several things.  If you are a fan of Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy books, I guessing you’ll be excited to see this adaptation.  I have not read the books, so I can’t make comparison-speculative based comments.

Here’s the trailer:

Anticipated Release Date: 2/14/2014

THE LEADS on screen:

I have not read the books, so I can’t comment on visual compatibility to what I read.

Hit or Miss? :  I don’t think it’ll be anywhere close to the success of Twilight.  I am very much curious about the movie as the it has the same director as Mean Girls, and judging from the trailer I got a feel of Gossip Girls  meets Twilight.  Is the movie supposed to be humorous?  Seems like it based on the preview.  Though I thought the books weren’t as such.  I think this will be a miss.

The Book:

Vampire AcademyVampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Publisher:  Razorbill

Release Date:  August 2007

Summary:  St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger…  Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.
